This is a letter I just sent to the SFA regarding the lack of information over the forthcoming Carling Nations Cup. I'll post up any reply I get.......
I’m a bit surprised by the lack of information over the forthcoming ‘home nations’ tournament in Dublin.
There’s practically nothing about it on the internet aside from a few reports on the fixtures from the BBC and a couple of newspapers (I couldn’t even see the fixtures on the SFA site).
I know it isn’t solely the responsibility of the SFA to promote the tournament but you’d think Carling would be doing more work alongside the associations in promoting the event, or at the very least, set up a website for it! The tournament seems to have really captured the imagination of the fans (at least it has amongst my circle of mates), however, at the moment it appears that the parties involved (Carling and the associations) are taking a bit of a half hearted approach to it in terms of the promotional aspect and the general seriousness with which the tournament is been taken. It’s a shame as it has the potential to be brilliant.
Look how much money the 6 nations generates for the rugby unions and the cities involved. Surely a prosperous tournament, which gets repeated and grows in stature is in everyone’s interest. At the moment it seems like an afterthought. If we’re doing it, let’s give it the attention it deserves.
This isn’t purely a dig at the SFA, it’s more a comment/observation.
Cheers
Russell
